About this Event
View map Free EventLocated in Middle Egypt between Memphis and Thebes, Hermopolis Magna/Khemenu was an important cult center of the Egyptian god of wisdom, Thoth, called Hermes by the Greeks. While the site has been studied for centuries through targeted excavations and abundant textual sources, fundamental aspects of its urban design and history have remained elusive. This talk by Yvona Trnka-Amrhein (Assistant Professor in Classics, CU Boulder) presents the initial results of the American-Egyptian City of the Baboon Project which allow a recalibration and deeper understanding of the Roman period city-center and its dismantling in the Fatimid period.
