Who

CU Boulder staff at any level of the organization who are looking to reflect on their career journey and explore their career trajectory.

What

Session #1:

  • Identify accomplishments and skills that they have and specify ones they most enjoy using. 
  • Describe competencies and skills that can aid in refining their current position or bridge a transition to a new position.
  • Analyze and determine items to delete from your résumé, including burn-out skills, to maximize job fit and satisfaction.
  • Discover areas of professional development interest to aid in creating a plan for performance planning and future professional growth.

Session #2:

  • Identify online resources for researching occupations.
  • Understand the Occupational Inquiry Method for conducting career research visits.
  • Begin to identify ideals and non-negotiables to prepare for career research visits.
  • Develop a plan for next steps in the career research process.

Session #3:

  • Identify a multifaceted approach to networking.
  • Create and practice a “Networking Pitch” introduction (also known as “an elevator speech”) for networking events.
  • Understand the importance of diversifying a networking approach. 
  • Develop a personal networking plan of action.  

Session #4:

  • Identify fundamental components of a reverse chronological and a functional resume.
  • Understand how to apply these concepts to analyze what the employer wants and how to tailor to your resume to their needs.

Why

Reflect on your career journey and explore your options for growth and professional development in this career exploration series. In these sessions, you will assess your motivated skills to help you determine a starting point for exploring possible next steps. Additionally, you will gain an understanding of career research and networking to bolster your success in identifying your potential career trajectory.
