Animation Appreciation Week

Animation Appreciation Week returns at the International Film Series! This year we are celebrating the underrated weirdness that can only be brought to life through animation.

Oct 5th - IT'S SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY - This existential dark comedy from the twisted mind of Don Hertzfeldt, follows a troubled stick figure who struggles with his reality as he begins to lose his memory.

Oct 6th - ANGEL'S EGG - A title that has flown under the radar for many, ANGEL'S EGG is the near-silent fantasy tale about a soldier who explores a futuristic dead zone alongside a young girl carrying a mysterious egg. From director Mamoru Oshii.

Oct 7th - SHe - An undiscovered gem from the stop-motion artist Zhou Shengwei following a largely ambiguous story about a totalitarian wordl of shoes with one who doesn't quite fit into the mold.

Oct 8th - GHOST IN THE SHELL - The much more recognized cult classic from Mamorua Oshii, GHOST IN THE SHELL was a cultural phenomenon of the 90s that helped continue the upward trend of the Western embrace of anime.

Oct 9th - SON OF THE WHITE MARE - Only recently released in the US, in this 1980's dreamlike Hungarian folk myth, a horse goddess gives birth to three powerful brothers who set out into the Underworld to save three princesses from three evil dragons and reclaim their ancestors' lost kingdom.

Oct 10th - MARY & MAX - Based on true events, this stop-motion delight tells the story of 8-year-old Mary who strikes up a penpal friendship with a New Yorker named Max.

Oct 11th - CORALINE - From the mind of Henry Selick (of NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS fame), Coraline is swept away to a fantastical version of her new home with a sinister secret burried underneath. Kids get in free!!!
