Dr. Jennifer H. Elisseeff will be featured at this virtual Ask an Expert event where she will have a live Q&A about the challenges of getting a startup off the ground.
Elisseef is an extremely successful entrepreneur in both the engineering and medical fields. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Carnegie-Mellon University as well as a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health and Sciences.
In 2004 Dr. Elisseeff launched her first startup Cartilix Inc., which translated adhesive and biomaterial technologies for treating orthopedic disease. Cartilix Inc. was acquired by Biomet Inc in 2009, the same year she founded another company called Aegeria Soft Tissue and Tissue Repair, which focused on soft tissue regeneration and wound healing.
In 2008, Dr. Elisseeff was elected a fellow in the American Institute for Medicaland Biological Engineering and a Young Global Leader in the World Economic Forum. In 2018, Dr. Elisseeff was elected to both the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Engineering.
Dr. Elisseeff is currently a Morton Goldberg Professor of Ophthalmology and directs the recently established Translational Tissue Engineering Center at Johns Hopkins in collaboration with Biomedical Engineering. She serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards of Bausch and Lomb, KytheraBiopharmaceutical, and Cellular Bioengineering Inc. She published hundreds articles, book chapters, and patent applications as well as given 130 national and international invited lectures.
