About this Event
View mapJoin the University Libraries as we come together as a community to read and celebrate the Buffs One Read, Braiding Sweetgrass. During this session, we’ll engage with the chapter Honorable Harvest. In this chapter, the author, Robin Wall Kimmerer advocates that humans move beyond mere gratitude with the earth to become a culture of reciprocity. She shares the principles of the Honorable Harvest that are enacted when we approach the nonhuman world with reverence and respect.
The guidance from Indigenous knowledge asks that we seek permission, we take only what is needed, only take what is given, share, give thanks, sustain the ones who sustain you, among others.
Kimmerer imagines how our world would shift if we adhered to these guidelines rather than using the world’s resources and gifts to the point of destruction. She pleads for a return from our consumption based culture to one that is committed to restoration and balance.
Please feel welcome to attend whether you’ve read the chapter or not. You may read the chapter in the Libraries ebook!
