Generosity: Building Equitable Relations

Natalie Avalos, Assistant Professor, Ethnic Studies

Generosity is a prosocial behavior that supports personal wellbeing but also the larger social body. Caring for the needs of others nourishes our personal sense of wellbeing, contributing to our overall experience of joy. We can also understand our natural inclination for generosity as a reflection of right relations or right action. When we consider the larger web of relations we live in and how interdependent we are with human and other-than-human persons, we see that caring for their health and wellbeing is a fundamental dimension of a just (and joyful) society.

This event is a part of a series of guided mindfulness practices and book clubs offered in celebration of 23-24 Buffs One Read, co-sponsored by the University Libraries, the Renee Crown Wellness Institute, and the Contemplative Resource Center.
