DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore "Acceptance"\, one of the eight pillars o
f joy offered by the Dalai Lama and the Archbishop in The Book of Joy.\n\n
We live in the age of grievance and vindictiveness. Could something as sim
ple as acceptance be the cure to what ails us? In this practice on Decembe
 r 6 from 12 p.m. - 12:50 p.m.\, we will draw inspiration from classic work
s of Urdu and Persian literature and reflect on two aspects of what accept
ance might require. The first aspect is an awareness of our insignificance
and the second aspect is\, somewhat ironically\, our role as stewards. In
light of the tension between these two aspects of acceptance\, we will co
nsider the possibility that\, rather than a state of repose\, acceptance m
ay actually be quite laborious.\n\nFacilitated by Aun Hasan Ali\, assistan
t professor\, Religious Studies\n\nThis event is a part of a series of gui
ded mindfulness practices and book clubs offered in celebration of 23-24 B
uffs One Read\, sponsored by the University Libraries\, the Renee Crown We
llness Institute\, and the Contemplative Resource Center. To learn more ab
out The Book of Joy\, join our community course to read a summary of the c
hapter about “Acceptance”\, explore discussion questions\, and engage
 in activities.
