Join us as we explore "Humility", one of the eight pillars of joy offered by the Dalai Lama and the Archbishop in The Book of Joy.

For this practice on October 18 from 12 p.m. - 12:50 p.m, facilitator Michele D. Simpson invites participants to consider the virtues and traps of humility, while also sharing her experiences teaching the course "Ethical Puzzles & Moral Conflicts." She will prompt participants to consider critical questions such as : Are you trapped by your humility? How do notions of humility maintain current hierarchies of dominance and oppression? How and whose stories does humility silence? Join us as we engage in both conversation and practice.

"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less." - C.S. Lewis

Facilitated by Michele D. Simpson, faculty affiliate & research associate at Renée Crown Wellness Institute.

This event is a part of a series of guided mindfulness practices and book clubs offered in celebration of 23-24 Buffs One Read, sponsored by the University Libraries, the Renee Crown Wellness Institute, and the Contemplative Resource Center. To learn more about the Book of Joy, join our community course to read a summary of the chapter about "Humility", explore discussion questions, and engage in activities.
