Visit will focus on one of the components of the program’s four-week curriculum, Microbiology. Specifically, students will observe yeast cellular respiration through a hands-on experiment monitoring the inflation of a balloon on a bottle filled with yeast under different conditions. Here, we will encourage the students to answer the following research question: Is yeast used for making bread alive even though it appears as a powder? What is evidence of unicellular life? The experiment is being modified and adapted from the following publicly available experiment from ScienceBuddies.
