The Center for Humanities & the Arts' MFA/MM Excellence in Creative Research Microgrant is designed to support the creative practice of CU Boulder MFA/MM students. Examples of support include (but are not limited to): materials, equipment or other pre/post-production purchases, facility rental fees, virtual conference/course/residency registration fees (if you are applying to a conference where you are presenting your own work, please apply for GRADE), honoraria for dancers, composers, directors, choreographers, etc. that cannot otherwise be covered by your department, etc.

Deadline to apply: Sunday, March 2, 11:59 p.m.

Note: Since the CHA cannot fund projects retroactively, the only projects we can fund would be those that begin after March 23.

Award

Award amounts range from $250-$1000, determined by proposal and budget submitted

Please note that starting Jan. 1, this microgrant award may affect your financial aid package. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Office of Financial Aid.

Eligibility

Open to MFA/MM students in the following degree programs:

  • AAH – MFA in Art Practices
  • CMCI – MFA in Interdisciplinary Documentary Media Practices
  • ENGL – MFA in Creative Writing
  • THDN – MFA in Theater & Dance
  • COM – Master of Music

If you believe your creative research is applicable to receive financial support but doesn't fall into one of these programs, please apply and explain why in your proposal

Guidelines

  • While proposals do not need to be tied to thesis projects, priority will be given to projects that enable students to work on and complete their capstone projects. You may submit an application at any time during your MFA/MM career
  • Projects need to be funded during the current academic year
  • We are intentionally keeping the language open to support the varying needs of CU Boulder’s MFA/MM students. If you have questions, please ask! Our hope is to support expenses that your department cannot internally fund in full
  • Students are limited to one MFA/MM Excellence in Research award per academic year
  • A detailed budget and advisor approval are required.
