The Program in Jewish Studies, in partnership with the College of Music and the Boulder Jewish Film Festival, present a “cine-concert" — a silent film with live music composed and performed by renowned klezmer violinist Alicia Svigals and celebrated silent film pianist Donald Sosin. Svigals and Sosin will perform during one screening of the silent film "The Man without a World."
Alicia Svigals is a founder of the Grammy-winning Klezmatics and the world's foremost klezmer fiddler. She has spent her life reviving a musical art form that came perilously close to extinction in the Holocaust. In May 2023, Svigals was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by the Jewish Theological Seminary for "extraordinary contributions to the arts and Jewish life."
Donald Sosin is one of the foremost silent film composers in the world, with 49 years of performing at major film festivals and archives, from MoMA, Lincoln Center, BAM, Telluride, San Francisco and Seattle to Pordenone, Bologna, Berlin, Vienna, Ljubljana, Rijeka, Moscow, Odessa, Bangkok, and Shanghai.
This program is also made possible by support from the Sunrise Foundation for Education and the Arts and the Roser Visiting Artist Endowment.
