There is growing agreement within academic and policy circles on the important role that Indigenous Peoples around the world can and should play in addressing the biodiversity crisis. This agreement comes with an awareness of the high levels of biodiversity found on Indigenous lands, and in response to global calls for the need to respect the rights and practices of Indigenous and local communities in future conservation planning (Convention on Biodiversity, 2022).

This workshop will bring together academics and practitioners from across the University of Colorado campus, and around the world to share ideas, stories, concerns and success stories with each other and the wider audience, on how to bridge global conservation needs within science and policy agendas with Indigenous knowledge, ways of living, and ways of “doing conservation and natural resource management.”

Participants will engage in roundtable discussions, interactive sessions, and a special film screening, all designed to foster understanding, inspire action, and advance conservation practices rooted in Indigenous values and sustainable resource management.
