Topic: How do we study the martian interior and surficial magmatic processes?
Academic host: Dr. Lisa Mayhew
Abstract: In order to constrain magmatic processes on Mars, we can study both martian meteorites as well as surface magmatic rocks using rover and lander analyses. Although only 246 meteorites from Mars have been recovered, they have helped us unravel the martian crust and mantle using classic petrological analyses. However, limitations exist for the study of both martian meteorites and surface rocks. In this talk, we will discuss martian igneous rocks and the need for returned samples.
