Title: Communicative change in neurodegenerative disease.

Presenter: Peter S Pressman, MD  Anschutz Medical Campus

Abstract: Word-finding difficulty is a common complaint both in patients with cognitive concerns and in healthy aging adults. Changes in normative speech and language are well documented, even in early stages of AD and other forms of dementia.  In fact, language problems are included in the earliest descriptions of many neurodegenerative diseases, including the initial case by Alois Alzheimer. As a result, neurodegenerative diseases have taught us much about how the brain creates and understands language.  Furthermore, as dementia surges with the aging population, automated natural language analysis may offer an opportunity to help early detection and accurate diagnosis of neurocognitive disorders.
