Communicating Science to Laypeople & General Audiences

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) and Graduate School invite postdocs and graduate students to a workshop on communicating science in an effective and clear way to non-scientists.

Katy Human, Communications Director for CIRES, and her colleagues, Katie Weeman and Karin Vergoth, will share insights on how to ensure your audience easily understands the information you are providing. There will be an opportunity for Q&A towards the end of the workshop.

Be sure to bring your laptop to follow the presentation.

Lunch will be provided. Registration is required via the CU Events Calendar by clicking "I'm Interested."

Tuesday, March 5 at 12:30pm to 2:00pm

I loved it!
It was a friendly and informal environement where everybody could express their own ideas, and where everybody's opinion mattered. It was useful to hear feedback on the elevator pitch exercise, learning how to convey your message according to the audience you have, and how to tell your story, with structure or tricks to capture attention. I think it will be very useful for me in the future.

The instructor was exceptional and she gave very good tips. However, the workshop could be more useful if we get specific examples of how to communicate (language, content, etc). There was too much casual conversation that could be replaced with practical exercises.
