CompSci Colloquium: Ben Kadlec & Jake Charland (Uber)

Perception and Mapping for Self Driving Cars at Uber

ABSTRACT: We will describe how computer vision is applied to both dynamic and static perception problems in the areas of mapping and actor detection for self driving cars at Uber.

BIO: Ben Kadlec leads the computer vision team for Maps at Uber. Ben's team focuses on building maps from street-level and satellite imagery by leveraging state of the art machine learning and computer vision approaches. Before coming to Uber, Ben worked on Bing Maps at Microsoft. Ben has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Colorado. Jake Charland is a 2014 CU Computer Science alumni and is currently an engineer on Uber’s Perception Algorithms Team in Pittsburgh.
