We plan to talk about searching for overdue aircraft, using two actual searches by the Civil Air Patrol to illustrate the basic strategy and issues in any search. I was the Incident Commander for both searches, and Joanne handled the final steps of the first search in her Mission Staff Assistant capacity. She will describe how those were finally resolved.  Searching for an overdue aircraft involves some theory and a lot of coordinated effort.
 
Biography:
Bill Waite joined the Civil Air Patrol just before he retired from the Computer Sciences at the University of Colorado in 2006. Although he was a CAP Flight Instructor and Check Pilot, his major interest lay in Emergency Services. He has worked on CAP missions in a number of staff positions, including that of Incident Commander.

Jo Waite followed Bill into the Civil Air Patrol in 2010. She has served as a Mission Staff Assistant and an Air Operations Branch Director in many searches for overdue aircraft and in Operations Evaluations by the USAF.
