CU Discover Series-Demystifying Academic Traditions and Regalia

Gowns, hoods, and tassels, oh my! In this session, we will demystify academic traditions.The history and symbolic significance of academic dress and ceremonies will be discussed.Topics will include the differences between academic gowns, colors, hoods and other elements of dress. Traditional academic ceremonies and their significance will also be discussed. Presented by Merna Jacobsen, PhD.: Associate Vice Chancellor & Deputy Chief HR Officer, and Director of Organization and Employee Development, Department of Human Resources.

Organization & Employee Development (OED) provides training and facilitation for individuals and intact teams throughout the Boulder campus. Our courses range from leadership development to workplace skills, and are designed to build skills and knowledge in workplace trends and needs. Our Organization Development Specialists provide a range of services including strategic planning, problem solving, retreat design and facilitation, team development, and conflict resolution.
