CWA Presents: Sportswashing
Join CU faculty and students as they discuss the issue of sportswashing! What is sportswashing you may ask? A fairly new term that surfaced in 2015 with regards to Azerbaijan's hosting of the European Games, the Wikipedia definition of sportswashing is "a term used to criticize the practice of individuals, groups, corporations, or governments using sports to improve reputations tarnished by wrongdoing. Sportswashing can be accomplished through hosting sporting events, purchasing or sponsoring sporting teams, or participating in a sport". Given the recent activity of the Saudi Public Investment Fund and the controversy surrounding LIV Golf, sportswashing has become a prominent topic in today's media.
