“Introduction: An Overview of Decoding the Disciplines” in The Decoding the Disciplines Paradigm (2017) by David Pace
Pace offers the Decoding the Disciplines (DtD) process as a way to externalize and teach the mental moves that are obvious to us as experts, but which remain elusive to the novices we teach. Dr. Mendoza will introduce participants to the DtD paradigm before leading them through two central tasks in the process: identifying discipline-specific bottlenecks that prevent student learning and determining the precise mental steps necessary to help students break through those bottlenecks.
