Ronan Viard’s cabaret—storytelling interspersed with music—recounts how his father abducted him from his home in France to the United States when he was eight years old. Viard shares the ways this traumatic experience shaped his life as a foreigner now living in the country of his father’s dreams, and as a parent and an artist.
Difficult Attachments: Anxieties of Kinship and Care explores how family relations may be about connection and inclusion but are also about disconnection, exclusion, neglect, and violence. The volume features eighteen chapters from diverse anthropologists, examining the ambivalent ways we are in relation to each other.
