DESCRIPTION:CRDDS Digital Scholarship Brown Bags are forums for scholars to
share how they're exploring computational and multimodal research methods
and related pedagogical practices. Please join us for light refreshments (i
.e. tea and cookies!) and conversation.\n\nOn April 24th\, Rachael Deagman
Simonetta and David Glimp (English) will present\, "Humanities and Data Sci
ence at CU Boulder: An Exploratory Conversation."\n\nAbstract: In February
2019\, Alan Liu (UC Santa Barbara) visited CU Boulder to discuss how learni
ng digital methods can help students to understand the Humanities better an
d how such knowledge\, in turn\, might fruitfully contribute to a world inc
reasingly influenced by Data Science. This CRDDS informal brown bag\, led
by David Glimp and Rachael Simonetta in the English Department\, engages th
e question of how such a bi-directional\, or even multi-dimensional\, movem
ent of thought might look at CU Boulder. After sharing the accomplishments
and challenges of their experimental Computational Literary Analysis cours
e\, Glimp and Simonetta will lead a conversation about how a partnership fo
cused on Data Science across disciplines might unfold and what we\, as a cr
oss-disciplinary community\, would need to make such a vision practicable.
