In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month we have a Latine/x day of celebration and conversation planned.

We have two keynote addresses. Gabriela Baeza Ventura, a researcher of US Latina/o archives and digital humanities and Deputy Director of Arte Público Press, who will speak about recovering the US Hispanic literary heritage. Shereen Marisol Meraji (Berkeley), an audio journalist and co-creator of NPR’s podcast Codeswitch, to speak regarding her experiences as a Heritage Speaker of Spanish in the US. After each address, in addition to audience Q&A, we have a panel of faculty and student respondents.

We will also be engaging with the Buff One Reads in a Solito Book Club launch where we will help contextualize the memoir, discuss unaccompanied narratives, and prepare readers for the semester’s activities.

Through mid-day, we will highlight a variety of activities including a lotería game and a discussion of Sí sabo with Mike Alfaro, prominent Latine/x influencer, digital creator, and creative consultant, known for his impactful contributions to Latine/x cultural conversations and representation. We will have a gallery walk of undergraduate student work and lunch will be served.

Our day will conclude with an Open Mic with Graduate Student led poetry reading and musical performances!

CU Undergraduate students are invited to fill out a participation ‘passport’ to be entered into a raffle for prizes.

More details are on our website, and we ask folks to please RSVP hereWe hope you can join us!
