Engaging Students with Active Learning

With CU Boulder's Learning Design Group, Continuing Education; Hosted by Karen Crouch, Arts & Sciences Support of Education Through Technology (ASSETT) and Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) and Brad Grabham, Learning Design Group, Continuing Education

Presenter Dr. Michael Lampe, Program Director of Digital Education and Academic Technology at CU Anschutz

Active learning provides a structure for students to independently gather and build content knowledge. In Fall 2022, we facilitated a workshop called, Building Community with Active Learning. By request from participants, we will continue the discussion of Active Learning with a special guest speaker, Dr. Michael Lampe, Program Director of Digital Education and Academic Technology, Office of Academic Affairs and Innovation, School of Dental Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus.

Join us to learn about Constructivism, an underlying foundation of Active Learning, and build your own definition of Active Learning. We will discuss engagement techniques and best practices to consider when integrating Active Learning in your classroom (either in-person, as well as synchronous, or asynchronous online courses). We will also look at misconceptions and what is not considered Active Learning.

By the end of this workshop, you will know what foundations have led us to Active Learning, why Active Learning helps us meet our teaching objectives/outcomes, how to integrate Active Learning into your classroom, and be able to recognize when learning techniques do not align with Active Learning best practices.

Advance registration is appreciated but not required. Please join us on Zoom tomorrow, Tue, Feb 07, 2023 from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. MT
