Striving to understand how digital media and the internet are transforming the efforts of architects and urban designers, Peñarroyo rethinks formats for critical engagement, coexistence, and collaboration through his multiscalar creative practice. In his talk titled "Designing for a Digitally Mediated World," he will share a few examples of how he optimistically contends with our ever-changing technological landscape.
Bio:
Cyrus Peñarroyo is a Filipino-American designer and educator whose work examines the material, spatial, and social dimensions of urban life continually transformed by the internet’s pervasiveness. He is an associate professor at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning and a partner in the design practice EXTENTS. Peñarroyo has exhibited internationally and been awarded the Architectural League Prize, two ACSA Faculty Design Awards, and residency fellowships at Akademie Schloss Solitude and Art Omi, among other honors. Peñarroyo received a B.S.Arch from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.Arch from Princeton University.
