Medieval Studies have never considered the concept of energy in the Middle Ages and its implications in theology, liturgy and art. The lecture will consider aspects of ritualized energy through liturgical rituals and their theology and in visual culture of the Middle Ages. This lecture explores the vocabulary related to the concept of energy, the definition of energy in Christian theology, and its role in the performance of medieval rituals, focused on the "energetic Christ."
