The Arabic placement exam for Fall 2024 will take place on the following dates and times:

• August 21: 1-3 pm
• August 27: 3:30-5 pm
• August 28: 3:30-5 pm

Overview

The exam consists of an oral interview (max 20 minutes) and, if needed, a written exam that targets a specific course level. The duration of the written exam depends on the level, and it does not exceed 90 minutes. Therefore, please plan for a two-hour meeting time.

Who must take the placement exam?

Students seeking admission into the Arabic program and have completed Arabic courses outside the Arabic program at CU Boulder, Students who studied on their own, outside of the university, or acquired Arabic through residency in or travel to an Arabic speaking country, Students who studied abroad and want to register for the next level of Arabic, Students who have a gap longer than one year between taking Arabic courses.

The placement exam is not required for:

• Continuing students of the Arabic Language Program at CU Boulder who do not have a gap longer than one year between taking Arabic courses. 
• Students enrolling in ARAB 1010 (Fall semester) with no prior knowledge or experience with the Arabic language.
