When Iowa farmer Ray hears a mysterious voice one night in his cornfield saying "If you build it, he will come," he feels the need to act. Despite taunts of lunacy, Ray builds a baseball diamond on his land, supported by his wife, Annie. Afterward, the ghosts of great players start emerging from the crops to play ball, led by "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. But, as Ray learns, this field of dreams is about much more than bringing former baseball greats out to play.

This screening of Field of Dreams will be followed by a discussion with Patrick Deneen, Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame. Professor Deneen has held positions at Georgetown University and Princeton University. His teaching and writing focus on history of political thought, American political thought, liberalism, conservatism, and constitutionalism. He received his BA in English literature and a PhD in Political Science, both from Rutgers University. He is the author of several books, including the acclaimed Why Liberalism Failed, Regime Change, and most recently American Odyssey: What an Ancient Story Reveals about Our Divided Souls. During academic year 2024-25, Professor Deneen held the Visiting Scholar in Conservative Thought and Policy position at CU Boulder.
