ork in the VAC Basement Auditorium (VAC 1B20) and discusses his artistic a
pproach and intent during this in-person First Person Cinema presentation\
, sponsored by the Department of Cinema Studies & Moving Image Arts.\n\nFi
rst Person Cinema is the longest running university program in the world s
creening avant-garde film and video work. It was started in 1955 by Carla
Selby and Gladney Oakley under the name The Experimental Cinema Group\, an
d was later carried forward by Bruce Conner and Stan Brakhage\, a Distingu
ished Professor of Film Studies here at CU Boulder until his retirement in
2001. Now called First Person Cinema\, with the intention of bringing an
awareness of the personal cinema by inviting film artists to Boulder to pr
esent their work in person. First Person Cinema has become a highly respec
ted international showcase\, until recently programmed by Don Yannacito (y
ears active: 1965-2021). It is now programmed collaboratively by the Movin
 g Image Arts faculty.\n\n \n\nVisiting Artist Bio:\n\nRajee Samarasinghe w

s Invisible\, which explores post-civil war Sri Lanka—the project has re
ceived support from the Sundance Institute's Documentary Film Program\, Be
rlinale Talents' Doc Station\, Field of Vision\, and True/False Film Festi
val’s PRISM program. Samarasinghe was also named one of Filmmaker Magazi
ne’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film in 2020. He had solo shows at the
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)\, the Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival\, and
the San Diego Underground Film Festival in 2021\, and the Los Angeles Fil
mforum in 2022.\n\nSamarasinghe’s films have been exhibited at venues in
