Fostering inclusive, evidence-based mentorship practices, the Graduate Inclusive Mentoring Community (GIMC) offers professional development opportunities for faculty and staff to enhance their mentoring skills.

Mentors, advisors and leaders know that their success relies on professional trust and respect.  Effective communication is critical in growth and development and one of the most important messaging skills is the identification and prevention of potential misunderstandings. 

No matter how good your intentions are, no one’s messaging is going to be perfect. If you want to learn how to predict potential miscommunications, address conflict triggers and apply effective resolution strategies, this is the perfect session for you. 

Outcomes: 

  • Use communication barrier knowledge to predict weak points in messaging. 
  • Practice conflict management language to redirect, clarity and build trust. 
  • Educate mentees, advisees and/or support staff on common communication barriers
  • Learn strategies to improve  communication clarity, address common assumptions which lead to conflict and identify personal communication strengths challenges and liabilities for growth and development.
