An eclectic collection of pieces by some of our favorite composers, this concert will journey through pieces with infinite soul. The program begins with the "father" of the string quartet, Haydn's String Quartet in G minor "Rider," Op. 74 No. 3 and works to the "heart" of the string quartet, Debussy's String Quartet in G minor. We will finish with two essential works we are proudest of, Carlos Simon's "Warmth of Other Suns" and George Walker's striking String Quartet No. 2. "Warmth of Other Suns" is inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s novel of the same name and addresses stories from America’s Great Migration. Simon's piece brings stories from our nation’s past that have been swept under the rug to concert hall audiences.
