Explore the latest research on the role Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and emotions play in performance and health. Participants will learn how to utilize the heart/brain connection to regulate heart rhythms to immediately address their emotional state in challenging situations, while building coherence and resilience, decreasing stress and improving mental and physical performance. 

WHY:  To support our communities with practical, in-the-moment tools for building coherence and capacity for resilience, stress reduction,  improved self-regulation, performance and mental and physical health.

WHEN:  

  • Oct. 10-31 
  • Weekly session from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesdays.
  • The first workshop on Oct. 10 is the “foundational workshop.” Participants are encouraged to attend the first workshop before each of the subsequent ones.

Long Program Description:

CU Boulder recognizes that our community is our most valuable asset, and that has never been more apparent than it is now. To care for our students and employees, and to recognize that all of us face new personal, academic and work challenges, the campus is providing a program designed to support our community as we work to balance home and school life.   

HeartMath is an evidenced-based program that teaches participants to access their hearts’ inner balance to become the best version of themselves. These tools, which can be applied in the moment, are proven to help participants reduce stress and anxiety while improving coherence, self-security and decision making.

Facilitator:

Erin Cunningham Ritter, PhD, is the director of wellness and employee engagement for the College of Arts and Sciences at CU Boulder. She previously served as the director of wellness programs, training and leadership development at the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center on the CU medical campus. For more than 15 years, Erin has had the privilege of coaching more than 3,000 clients on wellness and personal and professional development, allowing them to feel empowered to accomplish their unique goals. She focuses her professional efforts on employee and professional development and improving organizational systems to meet business goals. Erin leverages her previous experience as vice president of a Denver-based management consulting firm to create programs aimed at improvements in organizational culture and strategy. She has a doctorate in organizational learning, performance and change from Colorado State University.

HeartMath Techniques Workshop 1: Foundations to Achieve Resilience

Bring resilience to life by learning how to recognize when self-care and care for our communities are needed. Explore the latest research on the role emotions play in performance and health and how to utilize the heart/brain connection to regulate your heart rhythms to immediately address your emotional state in challenging situations.

HeartMath Techniques Workshop 2: Depletion to Renewal

Bring awareness to our emotional states and how they influence our mental and physical well-being with the Depletion to Renewal Grid. Learn an evidenced-based technique to quickly shift from a state of depletion to one of renewal in just moments by practicing the Inner-Ease Technique.

HeartMath Techniques Workshop 3: Practical Intuition

Learn to access your own heart intelligence for creative problem solving and building coherence where the emotions, body and mind synchronize for optimal performance. Learn to apply practical techniques such as Freeze Frame to both build and sustain resilience capacity

HeartMath Techniques Workshop 4: Energetics of Communication

Learn about the power of the heart and how our emotional states influence and are influenced by our relationships and communities. Learn practical techniques to support Coherent Communication while demonstrating care for ourselves and those around us.
