Soulé Déesse's practice moves effortlessly between painting and site-specific installation, incorporating sculpture, video drawing and painting, experimental sound, film, and performance. Her work is a meditation on the power of imagery and object-making to represent trauma and death, the state of the world, and the Black utopia of Futurafrique. It draws on the esoteric spirituality and magic of her Afro-Caribbean lineage to address the politics and aesthetics of geographical and social displacement and the evolving realities of identity perception.

Déesse's work, solo and in collaboration, has been exhibited in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

For Hermafrodek, Déesse's collaborators include Brad Gallagher as technical art director, Andy DiLallo as sound designer and technical support, and Gary McCrumb as lighting designer and audio engineer.
