Abstract: In early 2025, international headlines mischaracterized the work behind Mozambique’s remarkable HIV epidemic control success in Gaza Province - an achievement built on years of data-driven, behaviorally informed public health programming. In this talk, former USAID Advisor Hayden Hawry offers a rare insider’s account of the real story, using program data and field anecdotes to show how targeted behavioral science interventions can drive population-level change in resource-constrained settings. His talk will move beyond theory to illuminate the messy, creative, and deeply human process of turning behavioral science concepts into large-scale, sustainable impact.
