About this Event
"Jazz and the Civil Rights Movement" is a combined lecture and musical performance featuring Flutist/Lecturer Galen Abdur-Razzaq. The program will chronicle the history of music from the turn of the century to the present day, highlighting various artists, their music, and their struggles. Learn how jazz became a tool for advocacy in the Civil Rights Movement, with proceeds from jazz concerts used to finance major events such as the Freedom Rides and the March on Washington in 1963.
