LASC Speaker Series "Decolonizing Predatory Masculinities in the AMC series Breaking Bad and Mosquita and Mari"
Dr. Arturo Aldma, Chair, Ethnic Studies Department.
This talk seeks to highlight the ways Latinx subjects resist, decolonize and emerge from white-supremacist, patriarchal and compulsory heteronormative representational practices in television and film. In specific, the talk will contrast the competing representations of hegemonic masculinities in the award-winning series AMC Breaking Bad and the ways that Aurora Guerrero provides spaces for young Xicanx womyn to express desire and challenge heteronormative codes and practices of patriarchies in the award-winning film, Mosquita y Mari.
