On Thursday, December 7, Karen Boyd will discuss the psycholinguistics of the American Sign Language (ASL)

Karen will share two of her research studies performed with the Department of Linguistics and Psychology at CU Boulder. Her talk will be about which brain hemispheres are used for which part of the grammatical structures and the pauses in ASL. Given ASL is a visual and spatial language, it requires the use of specific hemispheres of the brain. Also compared to thousands of English words, there are only 3,700 vocabulary signs which create pauses in ASL.

The event will take place in UMC 245, 4:00-6:00 PM. Light refreshments will be provided.
