Managing Good Relations with your Advisor: Communicate, Collaborate, Activate

The advisor-advisee relationship can be complicated.  The advisor is preparing you to become an independent researcher, is a teacher, often an employer, is guiding you in the development of your expertise, evaluating your work, helping you network in your field, mentoring your professional development, and whose judgment often charts your future career.

This session will provide tools to help you navigate this relationship. If you have concerns about such matters as assessment of your work, assignment to projects that are feeding your interests, receiving responses to your work in a timely fashion, even accessibility, then this presentation may help you think strategically about how to address them.

Jerry Hauser, Faculty Ombuds, is Arts & Sciences Professor Emeritus of Rhetoric and Professor Emeritus of Communication.  He was a member of the professoriate for 44 years and has been CU’s Faculty Ombuds for the past 9 years.
