Taught by Mirela Alistar, assistant professor at the ATLAS Institute, this summer school program, offered July 22-26,  will engage 20 PhD students* in digital microfluidic research, with the aim of bridging the gap between computer science and microbiology. We invite PhD students with diverse backgrounds, for example, computer engineering, biology and microfluidics.

During the hands-on sessions, each student will build their own biochip, learn how to program it and develop a bio-protocol for it. The students will work in groups and learn from each other how to collaborate and develop new ideas. Apart from the theoretical and hands-on sessions, the students will be involved in a “where would it lead” open discussion with the senior researchers; discussions are meant to identify the current research challenges and the future directions of the field.

There is no participation fee, and all the materials for the bio-protocols and the biochips are covered by the Living Matter Lab. On top of that, we will select five participants to be offered travel grants up to $500.

*we welcome applications from postdocs and undergrads as well
