Rosetta: A City in Peril” Exhibition is part of the “Rosetta Project,” a multi-phase inquiry and awareness campaign for tangible and intangible heritage preservation of the historic district of Rosetta, Egypt. The city is under threat of sea level rise, and most of its historic buildings (houses, mills, and mosques) are susceptible to -and impacted by- ground water intrusion.

As Phase I of Rosetta Project, the exhibition will be followed by intensive engagement events, policy and design guidelines, and heritage management framework that my research teams will undertake. Also, here is our dissemination plan:

  • This work has been accepted for paper and poster presentations at the 2026 International Conference of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) in Denver, CO and as a contributing chapter for an edited volume by Springer.
  • Rosetta Project is currently sponsored by UROP, Center for Humanities and Arts, and Research and Innovations Office Grants.
  • Karen Martin
  • Alexander Baker
  • Dan Hawkley
