DESCRIPTION:Sarah Rosalena (Wixárika) is an interdisciplinary artist and r
 esearcher based in Los Angeles. Her work deconstructs technology with mate
 rial interventions\, creating new narratives for hybrid objects that funct
 ion between human/nonhuman\, ancient/future\, handmade/autonomous\, and be
 yond power structures rooted in colonialism. They collapse binaries and bo
 rders\, creating new epistemologies between Earth and Space. She is an Ass
 istant Professor of Art at UC Santa Barbara in Computational Craft and Hap
 tic Media. She was recently given the Creative Capital Award\, the LACMA A
 rt + Tech Lab Grant\, the Marciano Art Foundation Artadia Award\, the Stev
 e Wilson Award from Leonardo\, the International Society for Art\, Science
 s\, and Technology\, the Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Art Prize\, and the Craft F
 utures Grant from Center for Craft. She has exhibited at LACMA\, MCASB\, C
 lockshop\, Frieze LA\, and Blum & Poe Gallery. She has an upcoming solo mu
 seum exhibition with the Columbus Museum of Art. Her work is in the perman
 ent collection at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.\n\nThe Visiting Ar
 tist and Scholar Program aims to reinforce the mission of the Art and Art 
 History Department by inviting leading artists and scholars to present an 
 array of artistic practices\, historical discourse and divergent perspecti
 ves that can increase access to creativity and forge new territories betwe
 en the arts and broader cultural movements.
