Semiotics of Arabic Calligraphy & Poetic Inferences in Traditional & Contemporary Architecture
A lecture on calligraphic inscriptions and their role in shaping architecture buildings, elements, and spaces. A discussion and examples of using metaphors and inferences of the Arabic calligraphy in traditional and contemporary case studies will highlight the semiotics of different styles of scripts commonly used. With a focus on Kufic and Naskh scripts along with other geometric forms to relay the metaphoric concepts in space and building design, the lecture will conclude with a review of recent research on using automated methods to generate predictable square Kufic patterns.
