Course Description

In this interactive workshop, you will learn and practice 15 skills to improve spoken and written communication with people from diverse language and academic backgrounds. Our ability to communicate and understand each other is fundamental to collaboration, trust, and success. 

Simplifying increases the accessibility of communication that is received in English and communication that gets translated. Simplifying typically reduces text by 25-40%. Learn actionable skills to reduce language barriers, improve your programs, and make CU a more language inclusive place. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Speak with people from diverse backgrounds in better, more inclusive ways. 
  • Write communications to help people from diverse backgrounds to understand quickly. 
  • Impact awareness, empathy, belonging, recruitment, retention, and trust. 
  • Improve translations and reduce organizational costs.

Who should attend

Anyone who interacts with colleagues or students who are non-native English speakers or who come from diverse academic backgrounds. This is also helpful for anyone who wants to make their written communication clearer and more concise without changing content. 
*Please be prepared to leave your camera on and to do activities in small groups.
