This presentation will showcase Dr. Carroll's longstanding work with Cherokee Elders, knowledge keepers, and communities in Oklahoma toward the interrelated goals of sustaining our relationships to land and envisioning vibrant and self-determining futures for his people. Dr. Carroll will frame his talk through a discussion of Indigenous climate action broadly, and how this work is united across diverse Indigenous nations and territories in its emphasis on restoring, reclaiming, and protecting place-based relationships to land, water, and all life.
Clint Carroll is Associate Professor of Native American and Indigenous Studies in the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. A citizen of the Cherokee Nation, his longstanding work with Cherokee people in Oklahoma aims to advance methods and strategies for Indigenous land education and community-based conservation. He writes and thinks at the intersections of critical Indigenous studies, anthropology, and political ecology.
