Abstract:
The importance of studying responses to climate variability at multiple biological scales is underrated yet essential for a more holistic understanding of organism adaptation. The effects of projected end-of-century elevated temperatures on musculoskeletal development in the early life histories of several elasmobranch species (sharks, skates, and rays) will be discussed through the scope of cell morphology and how these responses may relate to organism behavior and performance under such conditions. Further, there will be a discussion of how this research complements current work focused on the bioenergetics of freshwater and anadromous fishes under projected environmental variability in the Yukon River in Alaska.
