Tuesday Talks: JB Garcia & Chandra Aitchison – United States Attorneys – Department of Justice

JB Garcia – United States Attorney

Mr. García is an Assistant United States Attorney who handles civil matters on behalf of the United States of America.  He has represented presidents of both parties, cabinet members, federal judges, dozens of federal agencies/entities, the Army, Navy and the Air Force Academy.

JB received, at the time, one of the largest Equal Pay Act judgments on behalf of a class of female employees in a case involving the City of Colorado Springs.  The injunction is still in place and ensures equal wages for women performing the same job as men irrespective of job title.

Mr. García is a former Reginald Heber Smith Fellow and is the recipient of the Inspector General’s Integrity Award among his accomplishments.

JB’s legal practice is almost exclusively in Colorado federal courts but he has represented the United States in federal cases in Illinois, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming.

While participating at the CU Relays, JB set a Colorado High School state track and field record.  To the extent the record still stands, he attributes that to having outstanding teammates and the fact that track distances changed to metric measurements resulting in his track-setting event being held infrequently.

JB participates in a program where high school students deliberate as jurors in mock hate crime trials to learn about our legal system.

Mr. García is a CU Law School alum, married a CU alum, and is the proud father of a CU sophomore and Phi Alpha Delta member Spencer García.
