Tuesday Talks: Sydney Bay – Director/Recruitment - Teach for America
Sydney Bay Bio:
Striving for social justice, I am committed to seeing greater opportunity and access for all children, particularly students of color and students from low-income communities. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder through the generosity of the Boettcher Foundation, I took my passion for creativity, design, and equity into the classrooms of Detroit with Teach For America. As a 1st and 2nd grade teacher, I helped my students learn an average of 1.8 years worth of content each year and founded the ongoing publication Detroit Writes Detroit. I decided to turn my energy towards the recruitment and retention of excellent leaders across the country. I serve as the Director of Recruitment for universities in Colorado and Texas, working to enlist the nation’s most diverse and passionate undergraduates to become lifelong leaders in the movement to end educational inequity. I love woodworking and graphic design, and I have long term goals to work in Colorado to expand college access for students in low-income communities and students of color.
