It consists of a three day workshop and is intended to give attendees a hands-on introduction to high-performance computing (“supercomputing”) using CU Boulder’s Research Computing resources.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

Identify community- and CU-specific research computing resources

Find help/documentation for research computing

Access research computing resources

Use basic Linux to navigate the command line

Transfer data to/from research computing systems

Find, download and apply software on research computing systems

Schedule jobs on research computing resources including CPUs, GPUs and high-memory platforms

Monitor your resource usage

Request research computing resource allocations

Upon successfully completing the associated assignments, learners are issued a digital badge, allowing achievements to be displayed and shared. Just as diplomas serve to recognize degrees, digital badges are artifacts that offer recognition and storytelling about micro-credentials.

Important: This course is open to members of the Rocky Mountain Advanced Computing Consortium (RMACC). Participants may register to attend in person or virtually. Note that if we have low in-person registration, we may opt to move to online only. Please email any questions about the course to rc-help@colorado.edu.

A Zoom link will be emailed upon registration if attending virtually.

Join the Center for Research Data & Digital Scholarship on Tuesday, August 18th and Wednesday, August 19th for our Research Data Foundations Camp designed specifically with graduate students in mind (although all are welcome)! This is an in-person event.

As data-based research becomes a common practice, skills in data management, data analysis, and computational thinking are increasingly important for applied researchers. The Camp will provide a gentle introduction to data and programming-related research tools that will increase users' access to cutting-edge methods as they pursue their programs and research. Topics covered include reproducible research and data management; tools for collaboration and sharing (using GitHub and GitHub Pages); data analysis and visualization fundamentals in Python and R; and an overview of interdisciplinary data practices and ethics. No previous experience in coding or programming is required! Those who complete the optional assignments will be eligible to receive CU Boulder’s Research Data Foundations micro-credential.

Writing Sprints are one-day events for faculty to write together in person on campus. OFA organizes these events twice a semester: once just before the term begins, and once midway through the term. Faculty must RSVP for these events so we can ensure there is enough space to support all writers. Participants may come for the whole day, or just part of the day.

This event will take place on August 19th, 2026, from 8:30–4:00 p.m. at Norlin N410. Please RSVP by August 5th, 2026. We will provide coffee and lunch to fuel your writing! Please feel free to bring additional snacks or beverages, a reusable water bottle, or anything else you might need.

Questions about the event? Please contact Julian Resasco: jresasco@colorado.edu, Faculty Fellow in the Office of Faculty Affairs.

If you require disability accommodations, please contact the ADA Coordinator at ADACoordinator@Colorado.EDU or 303-492-9725. Two weeks advance notice of need for accommodations is requested.

Get out of the heat and drop into E206 to grab a cold drink, meet our librarians and learn how they can help you with your research.

We host free consultation hours every week at noon on Tuesdays during the fall and spring semesters to help you with your data-intensive research needs. Bring your questions and speak to our experts on methods and tools for research data management, digital humanities and qualitative data, geospatial data, or any aspect of the data life cycle.

Senior Vice Chancellor Massimo Ruzzenne will kick us off and attendees will hear from leadership across RIO and connect with the offices essential to proposal submission. By the end of the day, faculty will understand the proposal development to submission process at CU Boulder.

The kickoff is simply an opportunity to learn more—there's no commitment beyond attending. If you choose, you can then join a cohort that supports you over the next nine months as you develop and submit your first proposal at CU Boulder—whether large or small, in the sciences, arts or humanities. What matters is that you get started.

This event will take place on midsemester reading day, October 8th, 2026, from 8:30–4:00 p.m. at Norlin N410. Please RSVP by September 24th, 2026.

Tools that we’ll touch on include: Zotero for citation management, Collection Builder for digital archives, Ollama for local LLM runs, Knight Lab Tools for digital storytelling, QGIS for geospatial analysis, QualCoder for qualitative data analysis, and RawGraphs for data visualization. Because this is not a hands-on training, we encourage you to reach out to us afterwards or join CRDDS consultation hours for in-depth support .

Zotero saves citations from your web browser with a single click and enables you to create customized bibliographies in nearly any citation style. Additional features can assist with organization, annotation, and pre-writing. In this workshop, we’ll follow simple steps to install Zotero and the Zotero Connector on your device and introduce some of the primary functions that will make writing and citing with sources a seamless process. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops, as tablets and Chromebooks will not be able to use the desktop version of Zotero.

Topics will include creating a simple repository and basic Git commands. Using our created repository, we will then cover important collaborative concepts, such as forking and making pull requests.

For this course, we will assume that you have a basic understanding of version control and have been introduced to Git and GitHub. There is no need to be fluent in Git or GitHub.

This course is intended to be highly interactive. In order to participate, please be sure that you have a GitHub account, a working version of Git installed, and either a Personal Access Token or SSH keys set up to authenticate your GitHub account in advance. If you need assistance with this, please attend CRDDS consult hours or email rc-help@colorado.edu in advance of the session.
